Macha and the Medic: Service and Priesthood on the Frontlines of Life by Deborah A. Meyerriecks

As a medic, as a healer, as a medical professional, someone who spends their life working on the frontlines of everyone else’s personal trauma, personal war, personal fight; we really aren’t the warriors. We are the corpsman. BUT if you look at military structure the corpsman IS a badass warrior. You have to be but you are also protected if you are doing the work. When you show up every day and put yourself in harm’s way whether it’s from someone else’s emotional outbursts, physical danger, or you know, the enemies of my enemy situations. You can make some enemies when you are helping people too. If this describes you and your work, listen: perhaps you’ll hear the call of The Morrigan.

‘Macha and the Medic’ is the story of a NYC*EMT and her developing relationship with the Irish Goddess, Macha (pronounced: MAKH-uh) who is one of the three daughters of Ernmas known as The Morrigan. A goddess of sovereignty, war, and death. She is a powerful ally when fighting on the battlefield known as life as well as in search for personal strength, inner healing, and peace.

Just As I Am: Hymns Affirming the Divine Female, a Girl God Hermnal

What is a Hermnal? It’s the collective sigh of our ancestral Grandmothers. It’s a means of drawing us closer together as Sisters. It is a compilation of songs that affirms our Sacredness, apart from Man, and assures us that we are Sovereign Beings and Creatrixes, too. And it is our Love Gift of Gratitude to Mama.

As a contributing author, I have 6 re-imagined hymns in this collection.

– Earth, She Is Our Mother (sung to the tune of This Is My Father’s World

-In The Shadow Before Dawn (sung to the tune of For The Beauty Of The Earth

– Is The Morrigan Calling To You (sung to the tune of All Creatures Of Our God And King

-Lift Up The Veil (sung to the tune of Praise to the Lord, the Almighty)

Re-Membering With Goddess: Healing The Patriarchal Perpetuation Of Trauma, A Girl God Anthology

Understanding trauma is liberating. Healing trauma is revolutionary. Speaking about trauma is political. Women and their bodies are no longer willing to be silent to or be the secret store of patriarchal abuse, control, and power. Goddess is showing the way, cell-by-cell, emotion-by-emotion, sensation-by-sensation. Healing trauma is a portal for freedom and a gateway to societal and collective change.

Re-Membering with Goddess is an anthology of women’s experiences of trauma—trauma as a result of patriarchy; trauma perpetuated by patriarchy; and how through personal healing of trauma the Goddess is re-membered, re-embodied and resurrected.

As repeating loops of trauma restriction release—in the mind, body and nervous system—Goddess is re-embodied and rises… and the patriarchy falls.

‘Still Finding My Way Home’ is the name of the essay I contributed to this anthology project dedicated to helping others heal through the traumas that still hurt. It’s one of the most difficult and powerful pieces I have written for Girl God Books.

The Crone Initiation: Women speak on the Menopause Journey, a Girl God Anthology

Crone is calling – can you hear Her? Crone is insisting on visibility – can you see Her? Crone is offering each and every single one of us an invitation to the individual and collective initiation of Wisdom Keeper, Visionary and Mentor – can you feel Her?

Crone Goddess is insisting that every woman give sound to her voice, embody her power and play their part in extricating her from the patriarchal shadow and bind.

The Crone Initiation is an anthology of women’s experiences of perimenopause and menopause, and the part Goddess plays in this journey. Rainbow Goddess: Celebrating Neurodiversity, a Girl God Anthology

Rainbow Goddess lives within the full spectrum of the human mind. There is not one way of thinking, learning, or behaving that she does not inhabit fully and sanctify. This carnival and inclusive Goddess celebrates the gifts of those whose minds exist and operate outside the box of society’s ‘norms’ – and she trumpets the creativity, visions, and uniqueness of these humans. Rainbow Goddess protectively arcs around those who encounter the struggles of patriarchal expectation and judgement of neurodiverse women.

This Girl God anthology showcases the voices and art of women as they express their experiences of neurodiversity. It is a thanksgiving for the creativity, imagination, self-awareness, super-power sensitivity, problem-solving, planning abilities, resilience, and new ways of seeing the world that these women offer.

I have 2 contributions in this anthology.
‘Broken Glass, Spiderwebs and Rainbows,’ and ‘The Rainbows Of Life On The Journey Home.’

Songs of Solstice: Goddess Carols, a Girl God Carol Book

This Songbook celebrates the cycles of Nature-Birth, Life, and Death-through the changing Seasons (the Turning of the Wheel) from Autumn’s abundance, for which we give thanks, to Winter’s “Dead Time,” when even the warmth of the Sun leaves us, and the world goes dark and cold. It is a celebration of both the Light and the Dark, since both are Sacred and both are needed for new Life to grow and flourish.

This Song Book is also filled with glorious artwork, Solstice poetry, and writings on the Solstice from Glenys Livingstone, PhD., Kay Louise Aldred, Mary Saracino, Kat Shaw, Rebekah Myers, and Sharon Smith. Songs of Solstice also includes an essay by Laura Shannon on the Goddess origins of the word “Hallelujah.”

“Not everyone is Christian. Many of us, who prefer a Nature-centered, Goddess-based spirituality, rooted in our own *EIK (European Indigenous Knowledge), have found deep meaning in the Solstice, Equinox and Sabbat celebrations, and enjoy singing songs that are based upon these sacred days/times of the year.

We, at Girl God Books, decided to create this special songbook with re-imagined Christmas carols and songs (only those in the public domain were used) to honor the original intent of late December, the Longest Night of the Year, known as the Winter Solstice.

So, decorate that evergreen, set the Yule log ablaze, put on the Wassail, light the candles, and lift your voices in celebration.” -Sharon Smith from her Introduction to Songs of Solstice

Bring A Torch And Light The Watch Fires (sung to the tune of Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella) is my re-imagining of a traditional French Provincial Carol I’ve sung in both French and English. I sang this while in a performance choir while attending NYU as well as for the choir in the church of my mother for many, many years.

Pain Perspectives: Finding Meaning in the Fire, a Girl God Anthology

Pain Perspectives is an anthology that tells the stories of women’s bodies and their experiences of chronic pain and illness.  It also reveals the deep wisdom held within the suffering.

The art, writing, and poetry from women around the world showcased in this book offers three clear messages. The first is that women are sick both metaphorically and physically.  Lots of women. The second is that it is the patriarchal systems and structures in society are the origin of the sickness. Patriarchy hurts. The third is that the path of Goddess is both the medicine and the cure.  Pleasure liberates.

Read how Goddess and Goddess spirituality supports women to heal and find their voice, so that others may too.

Scheduled publication: Samhain 2023

This anthology will includ.’e both of my contributions. A poem titled: ‘Torch Bearing Goddesses’ and an essay called ‘Many Forms of Pain and A Little Perspective

Prayers To The Morrigan: An Illustrated Book of Devotion to The Great Queen, by Stephanie Woodfield and Karen Storminger. Illustrated by Naomi Cornock.

Prayer as a means of communicating with the divine has been part of human existence since before recorded history. Words of reverence, petition, gratitude, and grief, reaching out to something beyond ourselves for assistance or solace. In this book you will find prayers to the many guises of The Morrigan, her many animal forms, as well as prayers for multiple situations in life. Prayers To The Morrigan is an exercise in devotion to the Great Queen through words and images. A tool to create a closer relationship with deity and guide for growing a personal spiritual practice. Included at nearly two hundred pages of illustrations created to accompany prayers to help devotees connect to the many different aspects of the Morrigan as well as how to call upon her during different times in our lives.

Naomi Conrock’s stunning illustrations are printed in color.

An adapted version of ‘A Medic’s Prayer’ which I wrote to Macha of The Morrigan and is on the opening pages of ‘Macha and the Medic’ was included in this collaboration.

Women’s Sovereignty & Body Autonomy Beyond Roe v.Wade Anthology, A Girl God Anthology

June 24, 2022 will stand in infamy as the Supreme Court of the United States overturned the landmark case known as Roe v. Wade which gave women sovereignty over their own bodies with regard to abortion. That sovereignty is now being given back to the States and women will have no say as to what happens to them.

This turning back of the clock is not just in America. Women all over the world are nothing more than a commodity and we are still being raped and plundered. Our right to do with our bodies as we choose once again on the chopping block.

As women from around the world and from a variety of situations weigh in on this new attack, Women’s Sovereignty and Body Autonomy Beyond Roe v. Wade addresses the concerns and opinions of women from around the planet. Through art and poetry, prose and personal accounts, this shared atrocity that continues to be forced on women is brought into a new light with a rebel resolve that screams “NO MORE”!

My essay, ‘The Right to Privacy’ was selected to be included in this anthology.
